Why does bootrec not recognized appear in Command Prompt?
If you receive an error after entering bootrec not recongized, this indicates the command is being run outside of the Windows Recovery Environment or from an incorrect directory. Bootrec is a Windows component recovery tool and normally only appears once booted from the installation DVD or when booted to the advanced startup repair tools. Reboot and boot from a Windows install DVD or recovery drive and access the Repair Your Computer menu. Proceed with Command Prompt. Running bootrec from the recovery environment will enable all repair elements and provide the command access to startup files so it can walk you through fixing the boot issues.
